The first essence of the spatial planning is to promote the continuous development of Chinese civilization and the overall coordination between civilization and space. The object is space and the subject is planning.

In the past period of time, there were several problems in the compilation of spatial planning, such as "insufficient support from the knowledge system", "unclear understanding of the spatial laws of civilized development during compilation", and "unclear guidance of planning".

Based on a large number of theoretical explorations and planning practices, the team of Prof. Wu Zhiqiang will soon publish the book " Theory of Spatial Planning". While constructing the theoretical framework of the system, it also organizes the highlights of practices, with a view to becoming a discipline contribute to the advancement and optimization of practical operations.

The future spatial planning will complete five historic leaps: the first leap: from "hypotaxis" to "supernatural", the second leap: from "quantity" to "efficiency quality", and the third leap: from "land" to "people-oriented", the fourth leap: from "line drawing" to "spatial sustainability", and the fifth leap: from "carrier" to "ecological civilization".
